10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not fun for a lot of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter come to an end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of a house?
The exterior of your house could use some refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your house in Lewisville, and, even more important, will offer much-needed maintenance and care that will save you money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean out your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they aren’t properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and animals are looking for places to build their homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows won’t cause you too much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows can be a bit tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tough chore, and will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. This means you will want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your house, patio furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your house, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem strange since you will just be driving on it, but, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also, consider adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio gets the most use throughout the summer, so it’s easy to forget about it in the winter when you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in rough condition the first time you walk onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you might need to consider a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are typical home roof problems in Lewisville. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your house, it is an excellent time to clean your home’s roof as well, but you will need to use a different process than what you use for most of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is typically obvious, too. These particles cannot be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.
The ideal method for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it sit. This will eliminate any organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Tidy up the Front
The front of your house is going to be what most people see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will immediately improve your day, and will probably encourage you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a really fresh look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You’ll soon be spending much more time outside, so spring is a wonderful opportunity to organize the things you will need for outdoor chores.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have a specific area outside your house – a place that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your house much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a big impact on the look of your house.
Kill weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you might be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.
Wet it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind particles that can get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
You can probably finish these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! XTeam Lewisville Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
