METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a gooey and stringy glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper right under the gum residue. Next we slide the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal, we will not use high pressure because that could damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than needed to clean concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal professional.
